As I sit in anticipation of the Grammy's and a chance to view all the incredible fashion and musical superstars, it should be noted that another musical sensation was shared with the world this past weekend;
Friday Beyonce and Jay-Z elected to not only share the first viewing of their newborn bundle of joy Blue Ivy Carter with the world themselves, as many celebrities have been doing as of late, but the Carter family did it their own way, for free!

The super-duo created a Tumblr account to showcase their pride and joy, I can't wait to see what this little girl inspires next. Check out the rest of the photos below.

Magic/Bird

I've been experiencing a lot of live basketball lately, I'm presently counting down the hours until I get to see the Lakers live in the flesh play against the Raptors today at 1pm, on Friday I was privy to witness the Raptors beat the Celtics at the ACC, and on top of that I watched the Lakers beat the Celtics at TD Garden on Thursday night (in the comfort of my own home), so what better time to discuss the new Broadway production, Magic/Bird? The story is about the two basketball legends who started as rivals, dating all the way back to their college careers, when Magic's Michigan State team knocked Bird's Indiana State team out of the running for the 1979 NCAA championship, and finished off as Olympic teammates and ended up being longtime friends. When Magic was drafted to the LA Lakers and Bird to the Boston Celtics, the Lakers had yet to beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals, in their pro careers they met in the championship finals three times, ending in two Laker triumphs.

The show opens April 11 at the Longacre Theater in NYC, and I am thinking about purchasing a ticket for it now, who knows maybe I can be seated next to the two over-sized icons.

Whitney Houston Dies at 48

I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow if I fail, if I succeed at least I did as I believe.

One of the world's most powerful and gifted vocalist has died today. The most awarded female artist of all time, Whitney Houston was found in her Wilshire Boulevard hotel room in LA at 3:30pm and announced dead at 4pm prior to her longtime friend, producer and career-resuscitating Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party. It's unfortunate and incredibly sad demise for such a beautifully talented and troubled musical idol. She was 48.

In anticipation of her somewhat controversial NFL Half-time performance, mostly due to M.I.A.'s extended middle finger, and the lack of controversy from Madge herself, Madonna released the visuals this past Friday for her perfectly poppy "Give Me All Your Lovin'" from her upcoming MDNA album, featuring her NFL co-performers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj. And in case you missed the ladies NFL half-time show you can watch that below.

Welcome to the Kobe System

Last night I experienced my first Raptors basketball game since Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady were on the Raptors, I was introduced to something revolutionary after we lost to our former player Tracy McGrady and the Atlanta Hawks... The Kobe System. Needless to say I spent the rest of my evening (and now entire lunch) watching every video that includes the Kobe System hash tag.

Clearly I am obsessed, and yes I am a Laker fan, and it's true I finally admit to be a Kobe fan (I don't know how I denied it for so long!), but these commercials are absolutely HILARIOUS! I am a huge fan of dry humour, being Canadian and all and Kobe nails it! As does the rest of the super-celebrity cast, Kanye West, Richard Branson, Aziz Ansari, Hope Solo, Jerry Rice, Wang Leehom, Serena Williams, and Tony Robbins. The best part of this hilarious ridiculous ad for Kobe's Nike Zoom's is that I actually find it motivating! I want to be a different animal but the same beast, and achieve success at success.

LEGO Goes into Orbit

Thanks to the imagination and creativity of two 17 year old Toronto high school students, a LEGO man has gone places most people only dream of, space. Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad launched a helium filled weather balloon along with their LEGO man, outfitted with four Canon cameras to document his journey 80,000 feet into the stratosphere.

And just like that two grade 12 students have become overnight celebrities, the "right" way (take that Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, every person on Teen Mom!), having been asked to speak at an undergrad engineering competition, invited to tour of a university astrophysics lab, and have been reimbursed for their expenses (about $400), and offered brand new, cream of the creme cameras from Canon. Jealous! (I both want their vision and a new camera!)

Next project on the docket? Graduate from high school and get accepted into university, something tells me, they have nothing to worry about.

Last night, Harlem-born rapper A$AP Rocky performed here in Toronto at the Opera House. In the middle of his first Canadian performance, he brought out Toronto's very own, OVO aka Drake and the crowd went insane as he performed two of my favourite Drake tracks of the moment, "Cameras" and "The Motto." In case you missed this sold out show, Karla "Hustlegrl" Moy caught video footage of this crowd hyping moment.

It should be noted, that at the end of the night after all that hype, sweat, and exertion A$AP Rocky impressively smelled delicious! And when asked what he was wearing, he responded "It's that Pretty Flacko..." maybe that's what all this A$AP buzz is about, but just in case it's more than a olfactory take-over, Rocky's LiveLoveA$AP mixtape is available now.

Fitness Friday: Quad Spin (Toronto)

I tried spinning for the first time when I was in university, and besides a few seat issues and occasional lady part discomfort, I loved it. It was intense, I sweat, and I could feel it "working," granted I'm slightly masochistic when it comes to exercise, but I live off the feeling of getting my ass kicked, otherwise I often feel like I've wasted my time. Then I graduated and left spinning in the past (but took my much needed gel seat cover with me!).

Well thanks to the encouragement of friends and Quad Spin Toronto, I've not only survived my first spin class in 8 years, I've also survived 3 early mornings this week of boot camp with George Chaker, which Quad now includes in their membership options! George pushes you through an hour of burpies, jump squats, lunges, crunches and more using weights, resistance balls and the dreaded Gliders; which you get to pair up with an additional hour of endurance, strength and speed at on a bike at Quad!

I'm not sure how long I'm going to be able to keep up this pace, but what I do know is my body is aching so I HAVE to be getting a great workout!

Golden Globes Fashion Part 3

There were a few carpet walkers (why does that sound either dirty or insulting?) who's carpet-ware (again... it just sounds wrong!?) I simply could not fully make up my mind about. One angle I loved it, and yet another it was scrunching up my face, tilting my head to one side and wondering, Why?

Case and point (and speaking of dirty and insulting): Madonna in a dark green embroidered Reem Acra gown with cap sleeves and chain mail bodice. It was the top half I saw first and stated I loved it, in anyone can pull of chain mail at a red carpet event, it's Madonna, and I even overlooked the fingerless glove on her right hand, just chopping it up to Madonna being Madonna. And then I saw the weaving of the green satin, and the skirt and now I'm just unsure. She's Madonna, so she manages to still look hot, but she also looks confused. Her top half is so edgy, whilst the bottom is soo... Little Women.

Case and point number two (without the lecherous reputation), is Reese Witherspoon. My first view of her was in the background, behind another celebrity being interviewed and all I could notice was the massive gap between her dress and her breasts, and I could not imagine how that could look good, nor how it could feel good! I hate the feeling of my lady friends have the freedom to flee the fabric chosen to enclose them, unless in the company of my own camera in the privacy of my own bedroom... but I digress. From the front, however, Reese's form-fitting taffeta Zac Posen gown looked superb, even if there are a few wrinkles at the bust.

Another lady in red and someone I merely saw in the background, but fell in love with the view is Glee actress Dianna Agron in an incredible laser-cut Giles Deacon gown. And then I saw this photo, and the front of the dress and it's starting to put the incredible dorsal view to shame by being too intricate and excessive, with all those laser-cut swans gliding across her entire gown. At the same time, she took a risk and for that I can only be grateful, I just wish the hemline didn't look like it was attacked by a bear.

Another Glee risk taker was Lea Michele in an antique embroidered silver Marchesa illusion dress. The gown just oozes over her body, leaving little to the imagination without being overtly obscene... and yet the embroidered bodice paired with the updo looks too much like the actress would fit in better on a rink of ice in lieu of a red-carpet.

Speaking of Marchesa, the designer Georgina Chapman wore her own design, and while she looks beautiful (because it is physically impossible for her not to), and I love the vintage inspiration of the gown, and there is never a time I can think of that I do not enjoy flowy pleats and billowy 70s sleeves, and the embroidered shoulders add a necessary bit of intrigue on an otherwise possible boring dress... Wait, what was I going to say my problem with this was? Oh yes, she's Georgina Chapman, she's the designer, I know for a fact that this is not her best design! Maybe it's just me, but if I were to "sell" my work to the world, I'd wear the best I had. And if I looked like that, it may have been a tad sexier too.

Speaking of sexy, another attendee who I first caught in the background and from her profile/backside is Jessica Biel, in a sexy Elie Saab Haute Couture backless gown. I barely recognized the newly engaged actress with her newly darkened locks, which I love and covet!

And then I saw the front and found the dress so, so, so Mandy Moore's wedding in A Walk to Remember, far too pure and chaste for a girl that hot and a back that alluring. Also Jess, just because you've been proposed to, it doesn't mean you should start wearing all of your bridal castaways.

Charlize Theron looked like a beautiful Barbie doll in a pale pink Christian Dior Couture chiffon gown, with sexy but not overly revealing slit and draped hip detailing. All topped off with a... headband? Which, I get it's part of the look she's going for, which she seems to attempt that 20s flapper hair style often; but at the same time there is something about a woman in a headband that irks me. I'm not saying headbands should only be left to 16 year old girls and Blair Waldorf... and yet... Regardless of the hair, the dress is incredible on her and I envy the couple feet she has on my frame to be able to pull it off so effortlessly.

The festival highlights 11 culinary events throughout the city, and includes 175 of Toronto's favourite restaurants serving mouth watering prix fixe menus, starting January 27th and runs until February 9th. Prices range from $15-$25 for lunch menus and $25-$45 for 3-course dinner menus.

It is recommended that you start reserving those tables soon, since guaranteed all the foodies within the city will be taking advantage of this opportunity. Some places I'm looking forward to trying include Katsura Restaurant, Kultura and Spice Route.

A$AP Mob member A$AP Rocky is making not only his Canadian debut this Friday, Jan 27th at the Opera House in Toronto, but he's also making his debut covering Complex Magazine's February/March 2012 issue alongside fashion designer (and attempted trend maker) Jeremy Scott, in a remake of the infamous 1985 "Warhol vs Basquiat" promotional poster for the Tony Shafrazi Gallery exhibition.

The issue is set to hit stands February 7th, but you read the interview over at Complex. Golden Globes: Take Two

Do I think Sofia Vergara is sexy? Hell yes! Do I think she's funny? Hilarious! Do I like her navy blue Vera Wang mermaid gown? Yes. Do I think it looks spectacular on her? Absolutely. Do I wish she'd try a different silhouetted, just once.... GOD YES! But alas, I feel this is a dream that will never become a reality, Sofia knows what looks great on her voluptuous figure and refuses to stray.

I often over look what the reporters and tabloid TV personalities wear, for two reasons: 1) the outfits are usually boring or lacklustre and 2) the person themselves bore me, thus I really don't care what it is they've decided to put on. Maria Menounos defies both of those in her canary yellow sequined Blumarine column dress, she is one of the rare non-talents who I see on the red carpet and take note of. Well done Maria, between your fashion sense and weight loss and career success you continue to be an inspiration.

Former American Idol contestant and present Smash star, Katherine McPhee looks pretty and disappointing all at the same time. Her nude tulle and chiffon, silver leaf embroidered Donna Karen custom gown is pretty, but also kind of boring, especially for a girl who's starring in an upcoming TV show called Smash, highlighting the life of a girl trying to breakout on Broadway. Where is the glitz? The Glamour? The intrigue? Because it's definitely not found here, it should also be noted, since I can't seem to hold it in, I loathe that hemline. She's 27, not 72, show some leg or don't! Just don't do it half-assed!

Angelina Jolie seemed to use her craft to inspire her choice of dress, since she was virtually a walking ad for In the Land of Blood and Honey, the film in which she makes her directorial debut, wearing a champagne one-shouldered Atelier Versace gown with a red folded detail and matching lips and clutch. I'm grateful she's made a change from last year's award show "uniform" and think she looks glamorous, but also a little washed out.

I've always had a great affection for Amanda Peet's face, but her fashion choice, not so much. This tiered, chantilly laced, one shoulder gown, looks like something you'd find on the 100$ bridal rack at Nordstrom's. The close up shot is not as bad as the full length, but then the cheerleader hair does not give any notice that it's wearer is actually at a high end red carpet event.

Friday January 20th, the Maybach Music Group artist, Wale will be performing at The Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto, ON. The "Lotus/Flower Bomb" rapper (my favourite perfume by Victor & Rolf), is promoting the November release of his sophomore album, Ambition, with The Ambition Tour. Joining Wale on the Toronto leg of his tour are Canadian emcees Harvey Stripes, S Dizzy hailing from our country's capital, Ronny Orleans & Jigz The Flyer.

The event is brought to us by the official launch of Blocktrade Music, hosted by Stylus Award winner 2011 Club Emcee Sir Lancelot, and multi-Stylus Award winner, DJ Wristpect on the one's and two's.

Golden Globes: Take One

The Golden Globes aired last night, January 15th, 2012 and while I was trying my best to take it all in, and anticipating Ricky Gervais really funny moment (which although I chuckled more than the audience, it never actually came) there were a few fashion choices that had caught my immediate interest on the red carpet and stage presentations.

Nicole Richie was the first person to walk the red carpet that really stood out for me, but that wasn't entirely due to her silver Julian MacDonald gown. Granted, I really like the entire look, it's a nice tweak off her usually bohemian style, and the clutch from her own line, House of Harlow was a nice addition; what really stood out to me was the awkward hug and compliments she paid to the woman (whose name I've forgotten) "interviewing" her. I'm also not certain how I feel about her shouting out Suave Professionals for doing her hair. Yes, fashion is from head to toe, but it seemed a little more like paid product placement than genuine appreciation.

Next up is the quirky Zooey Deschanel and star of the hilarious new comedy, New Girl, in a hideously tacky custom black satin, open-back Prada gown with lime green and black glass pearls covering the bodice. Love the girl, hate the dress. Perhaps another colour would have been more flattering? Then again it's hard to look at the dress, when she's sporting such campy hair and makeup, a similar mistake as Jennifer Lopez at the Oscars in 2002, if the bouffant didn't work for J.Lo, it's not gonna work for you. (Although with that said, if we had to choose the lesser of the two evils, Zooey wins.)

I took immediate notice of Sarah Michelle Gellar blue watercolour, printed Monique Lhuillier gown, but my definite opinion of it was not made until I had enough time to really think and contemplate the gown. I gown that makes you ponder... now that's fashion! Between the smokey print and voluminous layers, it was hard not to. It also should be noted that the Ringer actress claimed her 2 year old daughter chose the dress for her. Take that Suri and mini-Victoria Beckham!

Freida Pinto, yet another Prada victim, had me dangerously close to causing permanent wrinkles as I scrunched up my face in confusion about what she had put on her body. Such a beautiful girl and such a ugly, shapeless dress.

As for a breath of fresh, structured air, Homeland actress Claire Danes wore a black and white J. Mendel Couture gown, with embroidered cap sleeves and an open back, which Claire worked!

Although I'm not envious of the visible nipple protrusions, I'm a wee bit jealous of girls who do not need to wear bras, thus can pull off such a sexy way to show off some skin.

Another incredible standout was Emma Stone in a custom-made plum tulle Lanvin Roman inspired gown, with military inspired embroidered shoulders and a giant crystal eagle belt buckle. She looked like the Roman Goddess Venus, after a vacationing in Texas, and I love it! Every thing's bigger in Texas!

Now while I absolutely love Common, and was really anticipating his forthcoming album especially after listening to tracks like "Sweet," somehow after his album was released, and I had a hard copy in my lap the same day, it was completely overlooked.

Then the recent Drake/Common beef took over the internets for a mere second, until Jay-Z dropped "Glory" (and Beyonce "dropped" Blue Ivy-- eww?) and the beef was overlooked, ignored and scoffed at while people were blowing up my Twitter timeline with a collective "awwwe" (there's a pun there if you look for it) .

Live in the City: Royce da 5'9" (Toronto)

Detroit rapper and Eminem's longtime friend and collaborator, Royce da 5'9" is performing live in Toronto tonight, January 10 at, take a guess, a wild guess... The Sound Academy. I swear SA is vying for the title of Hip Hop venue of the year! I haven't seen Royce or caught a live performance since I saw him in Cali touring with his Slaughterhouse affiliates Crooked I, Joell Ortiz and Joe Budden in 2009.

I find Royce doesn't have as much of a Canadian following as he does stateside, but that appears to have changed after teaming up with Eminem once again under the name, Bad Meets Evil, and the release of their Bruno Mars-featured track "Lighters."

Royce will be joined on stage with rapper Raz Fresco, doors open at 8.

The moment the press and the music industry has been waiting for has finally come, Beyonce gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter at the Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC on Saturday, January 7th. For the past 36 hours there have been jokes about who will get the license for BIC's first single and when that single will drop... Well the jokes on us, because that day has already come. Not even two days old and Blue Ivy Carter is featured on a new track with her dad, Jay-Z.

Amidst all the glory of this newborn bundle of gold, there are presently rumors and complaints regarding the security measures the super couple took to protect their privacy, blocking off access to the floor to other waiting parents, evacuating staff etc. It sounds excessive, yet at the same time, what lengths would you go to protect the most valuable thing you have in this world?

Congratulations to the new parents, I hope they continue to take such extreme measures to protect their daughter, the public has far too much access to celebrity children as it is.

This Saturday, December 17th Toronto's 1 LOVE T.O. is hosting their 2nd annual Holiday Ice Skating Party at The Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West). The evening is hosted by 1 LOVE T.O.'s own and MuchMusic Rap City VJ T-rexXx, with music provided from Toronto Blue Jays official DJs, Jedi & D-LUX.

If you want to attend this evening of ice, hot chocolate, music and for some of us, bruises, but you don't own a pair of skates (or they're at your mother's house, a bit too big and haven't been used or sharpened since your skating date in the 90s), don't fret! There will be skate rentals available, but make sure you arrive early, they sold out last year! The evening starts at 8pm and is scheduled to run until 11. So in attempt to remain relevant or come back into her dimmed spotlight, hot mess actress Lindsay Lohan has decided to pose for Playboy's January/February issue. Lindsay was reportedly paid nearly $1 million to expose her ginger cookie, which was apparently done in a completely classy and respectful manner. Confessional time, I'm a huge Playboy fan, I grew up with Plyaboy magazines and calendar's all around me, have watched every Hugh Hefner bio I've found and even own a couple of Playboy coffee table books, along with joke books and more. Once I get that "dream body" I will try out for the mag, or so I say, until then I will sip my cocktail and nibble on my martini, but I digress... the point is, I'm a fan, and yet I'm doubtful of the class level that LiLo will be bringing to set.

It's unfortunate, because she truly was a talented actress, then she started hanging out with Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton and became anorexic, and faced not only DUI charges, but hard time. I feel like she's desperate for attention and has been for the past 5 years, thanks in large to her completely messed up parents! I can only imagine the poses and faces she attempted for the shoot, especially with those newly restylaned porn-star lips. But her reps claim "The pictorial is absolutely fantastic and very tasteful, and will be accompanied by an interview that will let readers see another side of Lindsay," which will all know isn't entirely true, since thanks to her infamous firecrotch shots.

But if Hef is on her side, I will give her the benefit of the doubt for now, as he compared the spread (pun) to the widely celebrated Tom Kelly-shot nude pictorial of Ms. Marilyn Monroe from 1949.

Childish Gambino Live in Toronto

2012 is already shaping up to be a great year for hip hop hows in the T-dot, not that December hasn't already offered us some gems! Saturday March 12, 2012 Childish Gambino, also known as Community actor and comedian Donald Glover will be performing at the same venue as I experienced the legendary performance of Wu Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah last week, The Sound Academy. Here's a little piece of "Degrees of Seperation," not only is Donald performing in the same venue as Ghostface and tickets are going on sale exactly one week after that performance, he also got his rapper name from a Wu-Tang Name Generator! I'm known as the Quiet Genius or Lucky Conqueror or even the Midnight Madman, using one of my many last name variations, take your pick; perhaps I'll go by the Midnight Conquering Genius? It somehow seems fitting.

We still have a couple months before March rolls around, but until then you can work on memorizing all the lyrics by picking up Childish Gambino's first studio album, Camp which was released November 15th.

Ghostface Killah Live in TO

Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, aka Iron Man, aka Pretty Toney, aka Dennis Coles is performing tonight at Toronto's Sound Academy. Not exactly my favourite venue, although I have seen a couple of great shows there, Lykke Li and Kendrick Lamar, but seeing Ghostface live is a must! I caught the Chef aka Raekwon live when he was here in April, and saw him at Toronto's Time Nightclub when he was just chilling in one of his (and my) favourite cities in September for Manifesto; Method Man and Redman when they were on their Blackout! Tour in 1999, and I've even witnessed a whole Wu-Tang reunion, twice, at Rock the Bells. So while experiencing one of the hip hop's greatest storytellers without the backup of one of the greatest rap groups of all time, is not on my bucketlist, it's still on my wish list, and tonight I get to make it a reality!

I'm pretty excited! Not only because I get to see Ghost, but also to see who's in attendance, I'm certain it will be filled with Toronto's finest and truest music enthusiasts. Also, I'm really hoping I get to sing along to "Cherchez LaGhost."

Today is World AIDS Day, a day to educate and inform people of the epidemic caused by AIDS, which has taken the lives of millions of our loved ones since its documented study in 1981. It's also a time to remember all those who lost their battle with AIDS, including Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, who passed away 20 years ago exactly 1 week ago, and actors Rock Hudson and Anthony Perkins (Psycho).

Victoria's Secret: Alessandra Ambrosio

Those who were not in attendance for the November 9th Victoria's Secret fashion show were offered a glimpse into that Pandora's box, thanks to its airing on TV last night. One of the major stars of the show, besides the performers, which included Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5 and Jay-Z and Kanye West- who I saw live last week (!), was Victoria Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio.

I will admit that Alessandra hasn't always been my favourite VS model (check out her finale partner in the first photo for my hint at who was), I found her too skinny to be a VS model...

But sometime between an interview I read with my favourite VS model and AA giving birth, my opinion and respect of her has rose... much like her arms in her best ballet pose.

Anyway, who carry that heavy addition and still look effortlessly elegant, needs all of our respect. Not to mention that she's had a baby!!! And looked like that within 3 weeks! Insane! Even more insane? I'm actually NOT jealous. Wow. Strut on Alessandra.

Movember: Nearing the End

As sad as all the gents rocking their creepy staches may be, Movember is nearing its end...And women across the nation are heaving a sigh of relief, because let's face it, all that facial hair may be for a great cause, but it's really hard to tell who's attractive and who's not, who's an actual creeper and who's just sacrificing their credibility for the sake of their sack. In the beginning I was actually looking forward to this month, since I often love a full beard, but in the past 29 days I have learned that I do NOT love a creeper-stache, and can not wait to hear the unanimous buzz this Thursday, December 1st, so I can start passing judgement again, accurately.

But enough about my gripes, here's the good stuff:

So far Movember has raised $70.9 million globally, $25.4 million of that has come from our home and native land, Canada. We have raised twice the amount of our Southern cousins, the United States, a country that is more than triple our size in population!! The runner up is the United Kingdom at an impressive $16.6 million.

I can't help but wonder if, besides our naturally giving nature, or knowing that prostate cancer will affect 1 in 7 Canadian men, this impressive Canadian outcome has anything to do with the loss of our beloved, stached Jack Layton who was diagnosed with prostate cancer before he passed.

Florence + the Machine - Take Care (live)

While on Fearnce Cotton and BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Special, Florence + the Machine performed a cover of Toronto emcee, Drake's, Gil Scott Heron and Jamie xx (from The xx) sampled title track, "Take Care" featuring Rihanna.

I find it pretty impressive that within less than 2 weeks since the album's release someone has already performed a live recorded cover of one of my favourite tracks on the album, and that said "someone" is an artist as respected as Flo. First she commissions The Weeknd to remix her newest single "Shake it Out," and now she's covering Drake, it appears Florence is loving herself some Canadian talent!

As much as I love my ginger haired songstress I much prefer Rihanna and Drake's rendition, but I appreciate her take on the track. My only regret is this cover is a clear sign "Take Care" will probably end up being the next single to be released, thus saturating the radio stations and diminishing my appreciation for it. But until that day I will continue to play it on repeat...

The Weeknd - The Knowing (video)

Last night at 12:01 am, Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd released the new visuals to his track "The Knowing," via his Twitter account off of his debut and widely popular mixtape, House of Balloons. This futuristic Mikael Colombu (Cee-Lo Green, Bilal) directed video has a sexy, apocalyptic feel to it. I'm reminded of a couple films I've watched throughout my life, including 1982s Arthur Rankin Jr. directed animation The Last Unicorn, and 1985s Legend starring Tom Cruise; throw in Tron for a more futuristic-futuristic effect.

Tonight appears to be an important night in Toronto, as people are scrambling about the city (Internet) trying to sell and purchase tickets to this possibly once-in-lifetime event. Jay-Z and Kanye West have taken their Watch the Throne tour to the ACC and you can experience this musical ...... for a low cost of 300$?!?!?! Seriously, 300$ guys? Add another headliner and then I'll understand, it'll be like 100$ an artist, but I'm finding 300$ for 90 minutes of music a bit of a stretch especially in today's crumbled economy. Granted, yes I paid that for Madonna, but that was Madonna! I've loved her since I was 6!

Pause.

I wrote that first paragraph yesterday, and for reasons I now understand, I was compelled to begin scrambling for my own ticket. Which I found, with a great section, seat, row, etc, which equaled an incredible view of Jay-Z as the duo performed on separate stages for "H.A.M." They stayed staggered between the arena for the first three songs, and came together as Jay-Z ran past me to get to the main stage for "Otis." I was already feeling incredibly grateful. Then the two performed more Watch the Throne tracks including the Swizz Beatz produces "Welcome to the Jungle" and then all hell broke lose and we received renditions of "Jesus Walks," "Nigga What, Nigga Who," "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)," "Flashing Lights," then we got a solo Kanye show! Kanye performed "All Falls Down" and "Diamonds are Forever." Jigga returned for more Watch the Throne Material, then he had his own solo moments, which at this moment I had decided that 300$ for a ticket was more than fair! They continued another round of Watch the Throne and 2 more solo sets, which included favourites like "Power," "Monster," "Made it in America," "New Day" where Jay-Z had a moment full of emotion as he spoke of his future child,

Jay-Z thanked the crowd "for that moment" and followed it up with "Hard Knock Life," and "Empire State of Mind."

Kanye had a moment of his own while performing "Runaway,"

But please ladies stop checking emails, cuz God invented emails so we could get away with shit/
If you love somebody tonight, hold on real tight/

You can only imagine who that was directed to. He followed the song up perfectly with "Heartless," which the crowd finished the last verse in unison and it brought the biggest, most genuine smile to Ye's face.

More classic material, "On to the Next One," "Dirt off your Shoulder," "I Just Wanna Love You," "Big Pimpin," "Touch the Sky," "All of the Lights," "Golddigger," "99 Problems" the list goes on. They ended the set with "Niggas in Paris" and even returned with it for their encore performance. And the crowd wiled out! I worked up a sweat dancing my ass off for the 2 and half hour performance.

And I'm considering doing it again tonight!

Toronto Blue Jays Unveil New Look

The Toronto Blue Jays are putting the "blue" back in Blue Jays, by reintroducing the appearance of blue in their uniforms, which we haven't seen for almost 10 years (for reasons Torontonians have been scratching their heads over for nearly a decade). Players will wear blue hats and shoes for all games next season, with their white uniforms at home, heather grey on the road, and their new royal blue jerseys will serve as alternates.

Not only were the players uniforms revised but so was the logo. The Jays turned to the original 1977 logo for inspiration, and came up with something I think all Canadians will wear proudly.

I know I've always preferred the old school logo to the more modern, overstated 3D "J" people have been sporting on the New Era caps since 2004.

Don't get me wrong, I thought it was an interesting turn, but it just seemed... forced. Like they were trying to hard to be cool, and let's face it, we're Torontonians, we don't need to try!

See?! We've had it right since 1977! So I'm excited to pick up a new retro-inspired Jays tee and wear it proudly. Not that I'll be retiring my old one of course; I've been squeezing myself into that one since 1986! Long live vintage!

2011 American Music Awards

Who caught last night's 2011 American Music Awards? The show was co-hosted by Pitbull and Nicki Minaj, who opened the show with David Guetta. I only watched half of it, but I didn't see much of Nicki after that besides her shuffling on stage to accept an award she had won, which I am more than thankful for. She sounded horrible except for where her voice was assisted (similar to Jennifer Lopez's performance, but let's face it, that woman CAN NOT sing), also her wardrobe choice annoyed my eyes and logic. If you can not walk without assistance, chances are you're wearing it wrong aka change shoes or devote yourself to them completely and have them surgically attached. Although inadvisable, staples might work.

The only two who were winning the fashion game of the quad above would be the bookends, who appeared to actually enjoy Nicki's performance as they sang along verbatim. But before you start question either girl's musical taste, it should be noted that Taylor Swift is apparently responsible for the production and success of Nicki's "Superbass." Sigh. Perhaps Nicki should remember to only credit the actual producers of her songs in her acceptance speech, and keep her gratitude for her friends and fans separate, but what do I know? I've never won an AMA.... Yet.

Ashton and Demi, No Moore

Yes, that was fully a cheesy and even unnecessary pun, yet at the same time, I don't feel a lot of sadness or regret or really much of anything when I heard about Demi Moore filing for divorce from her husband Ashton Kutcher, after he allegedly cheated on her with a 22 year old girl in a Hard Rock Hotel room in San Diego. Granted he pulled a douchebag move, as it was their 6th wedding anniversary, but isn't the fact that they weren't together that night the first sign that there were problems?! Truthfully, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. He was a 27 year old boy when they married, and she was 14-years older than he was with daughters who had crushes on him. I can't imagine what they had in common or how they connected, but kudos to them both for pulling it off for as long as they did, by Hollywood's standards, this was a relationship success!

I have more to say on the matter, and perhaps that's due to my own relationship misadventures and heartbreak, but I think I will save it all for another day. Be forewarned!

HBC Canadian Olympic Team Collection

After my boys Meka from 2DBZ and Lowkey from YouHeardThatNew... made their inaugural trip to Toronto for Manifesto, and had raided a Roots store after I introduced them to the Canadian fashion staple, my Canadian brand patriotism and appreciation has increased. Which is why I'm so excited for the release of the new Hudson’s Bay Company 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Collection, headed by Toronto native Adrian (TBG) as the design director for the entire collection, which was unveiled this past November 2nd.

The collection features iconic Canadian symbolism; the Maple Leaf can be spotted all throughout the collection, naturally along with colours consisting of Maple Leaf red, Northern white, along with traditional greys and black; it also features a lot of patchwork which Canadian travellers are known for sewing patches (usually consisting of our flag or Maple Leaf) over jackets and backpacks. Most notably this is found on the jean jacket (another Canadian staple, and part of the "Canadian Tuxedo"... sigh) which features many existing patches over the front panels and sleeves, but you know that some hardcore, explorers will personalize this piece with symbols of their own adventures.

After a good couple (thousand) listens, I will say there are no real "bangers" on it, which I'm rather surprised, but its a great album to just lay back and listen to, and that's not just coming from a girl who's been a Drake "superfan" lately, because I've been damn hard on him in the past, it really is a great album to zone out and listen to. It's on a Weeknd vibe to be honest, I wonder who's influencing who?

That last part is the exact reason this song is being shared, anything with 3 Stacks in it gets my stamp of approval.

Drake - Doing it Wrong

This features a little Stevie Wonder harmonica, and has a couple of lines that speak to me, although it's definitely a track from the perspective of a douchebag, just saying. When a good thing goes bad, it's not the end of the world/It's just the end of a world, that you had with one girl.

Another track that speaks to me, literally, Drake says my name. Also it reminds me of someone I once knew who's clearly lost, and trying to change and numb themselves so desperately. It's sad.

Dwight Arrington Myers, one of the most influential rapper's of the 90s, better known as the leader of Heavy D & the Boyz passed away today after a 9-1-1 call had brought him to the hospital. It was later released that Heavy D had pneumonia, he was 44 years old.

What I don't understand is why you take a perfectly good song and add an unnecessary feature for the video, solely because they have buzz.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why Nicki Minaj was asked to be in a song with "ass" in the title, but then let's keep the feature at that... her colossal ass, why try to get her to do something I don't think she's even good at? Really, just make your cameo and shake that ass girl; nothing wrong with that.

You read that correctly, this past Monday October 31st Kim Kardashian filed for divorce after 72 days of marriage to former New Jersey Nets power forward, Kris Humphries! To be honest with you, when I heard the rumours of their supposed marriage, I never thought they'd actually go through with it, since Kim seems to be "serious" about everyone she dates and who actually believes all those tabloid headlines? But hey look at them , they did it and even filmed the entire event for the E! Network. Their August 20th $10 million wedding reception in Montecito, California aired in about 50 countries and the pair even received 30 percent of the revenue from every commercial that aired, sounds like getting married pays off!

I find it ironic that a couple an make millions on their wedding and divorce a mere 72 days later in California, yet it's gay couples who threaten the sanctity of marriage? Really California? Really? A girl who became famous for having a giant ass and showing it off to the world, whilst doggy-style in a sex tape, can receive millions for laughably wearing white in what appears to be nothing but another ploy at more fame and notoriety. Kim cancelled appearance, claiming to be distraught, but I can not even come to believe her.

Kris, however, comes out like a pretty-faced victim, who seemed completely blindsided by the news, and was quoted as saying, "I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work." Sorry dude, you got used. But don't worry, you can use me and probably thousands of other woman to heal that broken pride, heart and ego. All you need to do is make a return to Toronto, you don't need to play on the Raptors again, although I wouldn't mind... Sorry, this isn't about me and my needs. ANTM - Pot Ledom Music

I'm sitting here watching my third episode of America's Next Top Model All Stars in 4 days, and I discover the girls challenge is to not only write and perform a song, but to also star in the own music video. Initially I'm reminded of the season Tyra herself was trying to launch a music career and used ANTM to cut back on paying back-up dancers, and how, well regrettable that venture was, and I could only wonder what she was trying to do with this present ANTM direction. So I'm watching a group of tall gangly girls wriggle and wry about on a set, trying to sing, as the Game attempts to give them direction and advice (since when was he the go-to guy for music videos or pop songs, or anything not related to beefing with... well everyone, thanks to "Uncle Otis"), realizing that some of these girls may try and take this challenge to the next level and try their hand at a music career.

And by the end of the episode I'm smacked in the face with the reality that they sort of already have one! The recorded songs are now available for download on iTunes! And while I thought some weren't bad, maybe even catchy, I can not imagine who would actually want to purchase these...

Alright alright, I'm a day late so Happy All Saints Day! Hope everyone had a safe and happy and fun Halloween, but most importantly I hope that everyone was in costume! I absolutely love Halloween and take advantage of any chance I get to play dress up. This year I was a Devil on the weekend and Little Red Riding Hood yesterday.

It's rare that I actually repeat a costume two nights in a row, as I said, any excuse to dress up and I'm taking full advantage by hoping into as many roles and outfits as I can, but this past Friday at Toronto's "superclub" the Guvernment's "Monster Mash" was a bit of a disappointment due to extenuating circumstances (which was unfortunate, since it really was a great party)and I thought my costume was "cute" enough to get a second chance at Maison and The Roosevelt Room Saturday night. All in all the weekend was a success and I'm already planning next year's costume purchase.

Clearly this girl needs to be invited to more costume parties!

Beyoncé co-directed her latest video "Party" with Alan Ferguson who's worked with her husband Jay-Z over a decade ago, along with John Legend and Andre 3000 for "Green Light." The song features Jay-Z's first signed artist to his Roc Nation label, J. Cole, who's debut album (that I've been playing on repeat all month) Cole World: The Sideline Story was released this past September 27th.

Monday Night I actually watched Monday Night Football without the presence or influence of man! That, my friends is historical... and somewhat untrue, since my decision to change the channel was in actuality male-influenced, but the man was unfortunately, not in the room with me. The "influential" man was Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade, along with New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul and New York Knicks new trade Carmelo Anthony in a new Jordan commercial, which was set to premier on air during MNF. So yes, I watched over 2 hours of football just to see Dwyane Wade and other NBA stars play some ball in a 2 minute ad. Clearly I love the game (and the players), and am going through some tough withdrawal.

While I didn't get to see the commercial that night, thanks to it either being aired after I want to bed or it only premiering on American television (which I can not begin to comprehend either, since I watched almost the ENTIRE game), I did learn that yet another 2 weeks have been cancelled in the NBA season. Sigh.

Toronto Zombie Walk

This past Saturday October 22nd marked the 9th Annual Toronto Zombie Walk, which turned the streets of downtown TO into a scene out of a horror flick, they were still affected following day with blood spatters and a couple random body parts or loose skin flaps laying on the sidewalks. I even caught myself muttering, "Fucking Zombies" as I cautiously passed a bloody, dripping horde blocking my walkway. I felt like Emma Stone in Zombieland, which is a great movie for those who have yet to see it, take this Halloween as an opportunity to laugh and cringe; may as well follow it up with Shawn of the Dead too... and I think I just uncovered my Sunday night plans!

What are you going to dress up as? I'm debating between Snow White, Cleopatra, Little Red Riding Hood, the Devil... not quite as gruesome as the above, I just want to be a fairytale princess!

I'm in a very Drake kind of place lately, and while I'm not sure exactly what that means or what kind of place that is, but I've been listening to the Toronto-born and raised singer/songwriter/emcee on unabashed repeat. So it's a little disappointing that his anticipated follow up album Take Care will no longer be available today, but the three week countdown begins! And yes, I'll fully celebrate the man's success on his birthday, by locating all of the songs he's been featured on and listening to them all day while I attempt to preserve my health.

First up, The Weeknd's "The Zone," then Jamie Foxx's "Fall for Your Type," then... who knows, the roster is my oyster! It's pretty safe to say I will be purchasing Take Care once November 15th rolls around.

Can Will Smith Save the NBA Season?

It was announced today that actor and PG rapper Will Smith has joined the new ownership group for the 76ers, the team that represents his hometown, Philadelphia. Of course there were no discussions of the present lockout that has so far cancelled the first two weeks of this years NBA season, but they did discuss their attempts to draw a larger crowd to the teams games at the Wells Fargo Center, which includes drastically reducing seat pricing, of course that won't work until there are actually games scheduled that fans can attend! I'm still remaining hopeful that this lockout will come to an end soon, and hey if Will Smith can become a boxing champion, save the world from aliens on more than once occasion and prevent drug cartels from ruling our cities, perhaps he can help save this year's season? Granted it may be far-fetched but this is the same man who's even offered his own organs to save the lives of others! He is a superhero after all...

This past weekend Aubrey Drake Graham made his Saturday Night Live debut as their musical guest. The actor also did a couple skits with the cast, one of which was a series of interviews with Andy Samberg that had me laughing out loud and delaying my "get ready time" for my Saturday Night out.

Drake also premiered his next single release, "Make me Proud" featuring Nicki Minaj who joined him on air for his performance. I'm not the biggest Minaj fan, thanks to her horrible lyrics, but her tracks have grown on me in the past; so I'm trying to keep as open a mind as possible since I could be somewhat biased, but I am definitely not in love with the track...Yet.

What do you think? Yay or nay? Besides this iffy track I am in love with "Headlines" and listen to it and "Marvin's Room" on repeat daily.

Drake Pushes Back "Take Care" Release Date

Last week the former Degrassi star announced last week that he's pushing back the release date of his sophomore full-EP release, Take Care from October 24th to November 15th.

The new date for Take Care is November 15th, 2011. I managed to create this album in my hometown of Toronto and the thoughts and stories I wanted to get across just became so clear. It truly felt like when I was here 3 years ago making So Far Gone. So I have completed 19 songs (17 on physical and 2 on bonus), and have run into a roadblock of clearing 3 samples in time to make the October 24th date. My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it. The choice was clear as day for me. November 15th you will get Take Care the exact way I created it with no trimmings. This music means too much to me to get attached to dates and I do apologize for the delay but I promise that it is only for the benefit of our experience together. Club Paradise Tour will also be moved to when students are back from the Christmas/New Year break so that I can get to more schools. New dates will be released in the next week...see you all soon.

The Jewish artist has had a busy month, prepping for the release of this much anticipated album, his Las Vegas birthday party in which he hopes Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist Kat Dennings attends, and his debut appearance as Saturday Night Live's musical guest. I'm not sure how he does it when he's preoccupied with a different woman every night, but according to his interview in ELLE magazine it's either True Blood or sexual climax for Drake's after-performance ritual.

The 23 year old, Barbadian singer has seen an impressive rise in her career every since that notoriously publicized "altercation" with her once publicly-hated ex, Chris Brown. She has sold more than 20 million albums and 60 million singles; she's won four Grammy's, four AMAs, and is the youngest artist in Billboard charts history to achieve ten number-one singles on their Hot 100 list.

Rihanna claims that she isn't trying to be sexy, although has stated that she works out and watches what she eats because there's a certain way she wants to look in her clothes and feels better about herself when she does; I can 100% understand that. On a somewhat contradictory note, she also has a drink and smokes a cigarette before going on stage, to achieve that sexy "raspy voice."

Cigarettes, alcohol, healthy eating, working out, and working hard, being sexy really is all about balance.

Red Bull Thre3style

This Thursday October 13th is the Red Bull Thre3style, where 8 local DJs battle each other for the title of "Best Party Rocker in Toronto." This formerly Canadian exclusive event went global last year, after 10 countries hosted the event. But let's face it, nobody does it better than the originals!

The rules of the Red Bull Thre3Style are simple, the DJs play a melange of three different genres or styles of music in 15 minutes. It doesn't matter what styles or genres they pick, they just need to make it sound good and get and keep us dancing! October's Very Own, Drake announced his upcoming Club Paradise Tour with Compton's burgeoning rapper Kendrick Lamar and special guest A$ap Rocky, starting Wednesday November 9th in Colombus, Ohio. As of yet no Canadian dates have been added to the 6 stop mini-tour, but considering Drake's expressed love of his hometown and Kendrick's apparently affection for the city he spent his 24th birthday in, they should be passing through Toronto in the near future.

RIP Steve Jobs

Today marks the loss of an incredible visionary in not only the world of electronics, but communication and culture, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, lost his battle to cancer today at age 56. Ironically I was thinking about Steve Jobs this morning when his name was mentioned on the morning show I had playing in the background, they were announcing Timothy D. Cook's first act as the new head of Apple. I couldn't help but think about the act that inspired Steve to turn-over his CEO duties to another person, and what it must have meant regarding his health, it seemed dismal, but clearly I had hope for his recovery, because I was trying to imagine whatever loop-hole he may have developed to put himself back in charge once he was back on his feet. Clearly, my positive thinking was misguided. Oddly enough, shortly after this random collage of thoughts, I had a mishap with my netbook and my have fried it, which encouraged thoughts of transitioning over to the Apple-family (I'm a PC and have been relatively anti-Apple for as long as I can remember, it frustrates me that people invest in them solely as status pieces instead of actual usage and need). Perhaps these are all signs that I should invest in Steve's vision in some way? (As I write all this on a MacBook... the signs are starting to get eerie.)

Thanks to Steve Jobs and his team, my options are varied, MacBooks, iPads, iPods, iPhones, MacAir; there's a whole world of apps I could be a part of... He's manage to create a whole new world of technology and a whole community that not only remain loyal to the brand, but understand each other's obsession. It really is amazing to consider all that he's accomplished and a shame that the ride has ended at such a young age. Rest in peace, Steve Jobs, hope your enjoying that apple in the sky.

Florence + the Machine - Shake it Out (The Weeknd Remix)

Toronto's neo-electro-soul singer Abel Tesfaye, aka the Weeknd, has tested his hand at remixing Florence + the Machine's new single, "Shake it Out." Unfortunately for The Weeknd fans, you won't find the raw, and eerily melodic vocals from the 21-year old singer, but in true Weeknd fashion it promotes an eerie, drawn out downbeat, and enough vocal filters, you'd barely recognize Flo's voice.

The Weeknd's remix accompanies Benny Benassi's take on the track, which I have yet to listen to, but I'm expecting the pairing to be an interesting ying and yang compilation, available, along with the original on iTunes now. Florence + the Machines new album, Ceremonials, will be released October 31st.

While I was busy celebrating the raddest kid in the world's second birthday, Drake was busy releasing the visuals to his latest single, "Headlines," on his blogspot. Shot in T.O. directed by Lamar Taylor and Hyghly Alleyne. Ironically, I just added this song to my Blackberry's playlist a mere hour prior to his release, and I'm excited for a hometown video.

Nike MAGs - Back from the Future

After years of Back to the Future fans begging Nike to release the iconic Nike MAG (Magnetic Anti-Gravity) shoe that Marty McFly sported in the second Back to the Future film. The news was announced September 8th but I only discovered this past weekend when I saw Kid Cudi on Conan O'Brian. While I think the shoes are kind of hideous, all the proceeds of the 1,500 pairs that were made available for auction via eBay go to a good cause, The Micheal J. Fox Foundation. And let's be honest, I've never been much of a sneaker connoisseur.

The auction ended September 18th, thanks to celebrities like Kid Cudi (who now owns four pairs) spending 30k for their own private piece of the "Future;" but you still have a chance to collect a MAG of your own, Nike made both a ceramic replica of the shoe and a Nike MAG pin. For Canadians who may want a piece of history, or the "Future" you'll have to travel south of the border.

NBA Lockout Continues

And it's really starting to freak me out! Now before men start drooling that I'm not only feminine but also some crazy sports fan, let me be the first to tell you, I'm not. There are only two sports I am interested in watching on TV and one is beach volleyball, which I haven't actually caught a full game in years, and the other is basketball. I'm not sure what it was about basketball that initially drew my attention, perhaps it was the favoured sport of a boy I liked when I was 11, or maybe it's that I have a weakness for tall men (aka the players), either way I enjoy it, I cheer, I shout, I've hit the people sitting next to me (by sheer reflex) and I look forward to the start of the season. Unfortunately that season is presently being threatened by an unnecessary lockout, while the two sides: NBA commission David Stern and the union president, LA Laker Point Guard Derek Fisher argue over salary caps.

The two sides are meeting again today, along with the owners, the 11-member Labor Relations Committee, and the union's Executive Committee; they've also opened up the meeting to any other owners or players who wish to attend, stating that this possible season delay will affect both sides. It is expected, by the end of the weekend, that it will be known whether or not the NBA will have to postpone or cancel regular-season games which was slated to begin November 1st. This will only be the second time in NBA history the league will be forced to cancel part of its schedule, the first being in 1998 due to a six-month long lockout cut the season to a mere 50 games! Pre-season games have already been cancelled, and as of last Friday as was the opening week.

"If we can't find a way to get some common ground really, really soon, then the time of starting the regular season at its scheduled date is going to be in jeopardy big-time."

Tell em Fish! I just want to see my boys play! I miss them, and I've got my teams picked and I'm ready to go! At least I was able to catch the ridiculously handsome Dwyane Wade on Jimmy Fallon last night... Shows better start slotting a different player for every day, so that I can get my fix.

How to Make It In America Premiere

Sunday October 2nd, the NYC show that appeals to fashionistas, business-people and hip hop heads alike premieres on HBO, and I can't express how grateful I am that they are bringing it back! I was worried that although the show was great it didn't draw enough of a following, but clearly I was wrong.... which is a rarity, but thank God it happened this once.

Toronto Tuesday: Shuffle Turns 6

For the past year my girlfriend and I have been attending Shuffle parties religiously, and every time we end the night with a giant smile on our face thanks to a night well danced! Well this Friday, Sept. 30th marks the anniversary of the party that started at Revival Nightclub 6 years ago! The event has gotten bigger and better thanks to the crowd it draws and the music it provides, and this month the 1 LOVE TO boys are bringing back the originals, Team Canada.

Needless to say, this event is going to be big and you'll see me there with my towering dancing shoes (I may be dancing, but I still wear heels, naturally), dancing with the crowd to a great shuffle (hence the name) of hip hop, dance, reggae and more. Ron Artest's Changing the Game his Name

Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest legally changed his name last week, and yes this is absolutely news worthy. You can now refer to the anger management class-attendee (thanks to his antics on the court and towards fans), Metta World Peace. I guess the classes are paying off since not only is the man advocating for peace, but his new first name, Metta is a Buddhist term used to describe "loving kindness and friendliness toward others." How very inspiring, Art... Metta. I noticed last season that World Peace (sigh) was definitely a calmer, less aggitated player who often took the role of peace-keeper, so maybe this is just a sign that he's a changed man and ready to let go of the Ron Artest of the past. A bit excessive? Perhaps, but this man believes that "Changing [his] name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world. I'm glad that it is now official." So are we, my friend. So are we.

Manifesto Festival

Thursday Sept 15th kicked off the beginning of the 5th Annual Manifesto Festival here in our magnificent city of Toronto, and it continues until this Sunday Sept 25th. The festival is 11 days, 14 events filled with art, music, culture and community bringing together 100s of artists and performers showcasing their talents to the masses, and inspiring a greater sense of community in such a large city.

Last night Shaun Boothe performed (in my neighbourhood), tomorrow is Manifesto Movie Night and Boot Camp Clik is performing live alongside Sean P, Smif n' Wessen and more at the Sound Academy! You can catch me taking in Saturday's "So Much Things to Say" showcase, featuring my fam Meka from 2Dopeboyz.com and Lowkey from YouHeardThatNew on the "North American Blogger Panel," and Lola from ILuvLola "Who You Callin' a B?! U.N.I.T.Y." panel.

It's official, the Royal Blacksheep is another year older, but more importantly, he's actually in my dating age-range! I can not believe that! I remember when I was younger and began checking out the Royal brothers, I was a Prince William girl all the way, but a large part of that was due to age. Then Prince Harry started started growing up and was kind of bad ass and I wanted to announce my new favourite Royal Brother but thought there was too much of an age gap. Well I'm older and wiser now, much like Harry, and realize that a couple of years is nothing. So Harry, Happy 27th birthday, your present is waiting for you in Toronto.

And for the rest of you hoping to catch a glimpse of the birthday boy letting loose, I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait until Harry's done his Apache helicopter pilot training at the Royal Air Force's Wattisham airfield. 2011 Toronto International Film Festival

It's now Day 6 of the Toronto International Film Festival, and oddly enough I haven't taken part in any of the festivities, but that's all going to change tonight! Private party, with some Lakers and Ludacris, and tomorrow a viewing of Jeff Who Lives at Home, starring the adorably hilarious Jason Segal.

You may have missed your chance to see Brangelina and George Clooney walking through the streets of our bustling city, and Madonna may have asked you to face a wall or look at your feet as she walked past (as she did all the volunteers at the press conference for her second attempt directing for WE), but don't worry you still have a few more days to catch a glimpse of some of your favourite celebs.

I was first introduced to Toronto duo, The Airplane Boys this past January when they opened for Big Sean at Revival, since then I've been able to catch them live on more than one occasion and they always put on a great show. Most recently the creative and somewhat eccentric Boys got to open for J. Cole last Saturday night (September 4th) at the Sound Academy.

The Boys released new visuals from their synthed-out hiphop mixtape, Where’ve You Been? for their Radiohead influenced track "Ice Age," directed by Warren Credo. Watch the video below,

Justin Bieber's teeny girlfriend, Selena Gomez co-hosted the MTV VMA Pre-Show at the Nokia Theatre, in this Gothic inspired, black lace Julien MacDonald. I'm a fan of the lace, even the high neckline- which I'd normally say ages her, but the long train/skirt overlay in the back is horrible and adding not just years but centuries to the young "Love You Like a Love Song" singer. If only she would have done away with that and left it as a simple mini-skirt, it still would have made a statement, thanks to the neckline, and would have also looked good. Fortunately her beau only half-assed his commitment to arriving as a "themed" couple.

First I have a major confession to share, when Biebs won one of his awards, I no longer remember which one- it's irrelevant, I.... I....I... I found him attractive! What is wrong with me? I find a goddamn embryo attractive?!?! It must have been the glasses and new haircut (yea I noticed it Bieber), because my lady friend (emphasis on the word "lady") felt the same way. All kinds of wrong! Of course now that I've seen his pants and shoes, my fever has cooled down. Thank god! Or thank leopard!

Every time I go to my youtube page in attempts to watch my favourites playlist, I'm interrupted by trailers of Zoe Saldana's new film, Colombiana. Which have clearly done their job, because once my annoyance had subsided, I really want to see it! Add to the fact that Zoe shows up everywhere looking like this! Zoe looks effortlessly stunning in a tweed and leather, military inspired Barbara Bui LBD and snake-skin heels. She looks incredible, I almost believe she's capable of breaking into a prison, killing a dude and somehow making her way out again...

I'm certain I've said this about Victoria Justice in the past, but I have no idea who she is, and the only reason I've included her is because she's wearing something shiny, and her THEIA mini and Rock and Republic pumps are an excellent choice for this event; and because she looks a lot like Nina Dobrev, which I am getting pretty pumped for the return of Vampire Diaries!

And the number 1 stunner of the evening, on so many levels, Beyonce Knowles not only announces her pregnancy to a congratulatory and joyous crowd (I could not have found Jay-Z cuter at the moment she revealed her baby bump!), but she looks marvelous in this orange, one-shoulder, silk crepe Lanvin gown. It's the perfect dress to hide a bump, without actually appearing like you're trying to hide anything. I've already said, I'm looking forward to watching B's maternity fashion over the next 7 months!

Beyonce has the music industry on its heels thanks to her pregnancy announcement she made at last nights VMA's. The 29 year old singer and her husband of 3 years, hip hop mogul Jay-Z, 41, are expecting their first child this winter, and all I have to say is that kid is going to have a lot of pressure and expectations. The talent and success level expected from this unborn child, is enough for Beyonce to give birth to dollar signs. It's a blessing and a curse, and will be interesting to see how the baby grows up and what they become, I bet music execs are already planning their strategies and bids. As for me, I can't wait to see what kind of mom Beyonce will be, starting with her pregnancy fashion! Jay-Z, however, I feel like he will be a great and devoted father, you can tell he's a man ready for fatherhood. Best of luck to both and congrats to the beaming couple!

RIP Aaliyah, 10 Years Later

Ten years has passed since that airplane crash that killed the Princess of RnB and actress, Aaliyah and 8 other passengers, and since then her memory has continued to haunt and influence her fans, friends and music community. I still find myself singing her songs, "Rock the Boat" crosses my lips or gets stuck in my head more times than I can admit, and I never even considered myself a real Aaliyah fan! She had a soft, sweet voices and some catchy beats and melodies, thanks to both Missy Elliot and Timbaland production. Besides her music and movies what I will remember most about the Brooklyn born songstress, was the affect she had on her peers and the memorials they dedicated to her after the fact; she had to have been pretty amazing, personally, for such genuine, heart-wrenching and heart-felt reactions. As she said in the only "Diary Of..." episode that I ever approved of, "You think you know, but you have know idea..." Aaliyah's death and the affect she had on millions, could not have proved that statement more.

Wilfred Grand Opening Toronto

Jack Layton Lost his Final Battle

Toronto's Member of Parliament and NDP leader, Jack Layton lost his battle with cancer yesterday at 4:41am in his home here in TO. The liberal rights activist announced that he had prostate cancer early last year and vowed to follow both his father and wife of 23 years lead and beat the disease. Unfortunately after seeing Layton speak at an event last week, those chances were beginning to look slim, but nobody would have expected something as devastating as this to happen so quickly. Members of the public have been bringing flowers and notes love and admiration to his Huron St. home. One of my personal favourites that have been shared with the public read, “Dear Jack, raise a little hell in heaven for us, will ya? We could use some more angels down here.” Even if you weren't heavily involved in politics, Jack Layton was a recognized and admired figure within our nation, and his death is a great loss to our country. Mine and the rest of my city's hearts go out to his friends and family; he was one of the few politicians I could stand behind and believed were decent, kind and genuine. He was a good man. Rest in peace Jack.

The Weeknd - Thursday (new)

I could say the reason for this post is because I bumped into Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd on my corner last night, but let's be honest I've been waiting for this since I knew of its existence! The Weeknd released his second mixtape, Thursday fittingly, on this past Thursday, August 18th. Needless to say, four days of listening to it and it's already incredible. Thursday introduces us to the inevitable, a collaboration between the Torontonian singer and the man partially responsible for the explosion of his career, October's Very Own, Drake, on "The Zone."

Toronto emcee Shaun Boothe has finally released his much anticipated, Waiting Room mixtape. On it you can hear his radio hit, "Let Me Go," "1 2 3" and "Phone Sex," and features Talib Kweli, Kardinal Offishall, Cyhi Da Prynce, Kim Davis, Amanda Diva, and Nadia Stone. Shaun, who has opened for Atmosphere, my personal favourite and hosted Kendrick Lamar's debut in Toronto this past June, has made this magnum opus available to you for free via his website. The album is filled with great quotables, and the production is on point (produced by both Boothe and his cousin Nineteen85)! My personal favourite is "Get a Job" which samples Grand Funk Railroad's "Inside Looking Out," and is clever from inception, with lines like Fireman? You lost your mind/imagine a fireman working on black people time...Not a fireman but you can catch me on the go/tearing up the road with a truck full of hoes. The man's got talent and I'm counting the minutes until he blows up!

Hopefully everyone had as great a time as I did this past weekend; and if you did that means you're in desperate need of some recovery time, and who better to listen to than the soothing Lykke Li? Atmosphere Live in TO

Tomorrow night, Wednesday August 10th, Atmosphere returns to Toronto to promote their 7th studio album, The Family Sign with The Family Vacation Tour, alongside Blueprint (the "Joe Budden" of Rhymesayers), Evidence, DJ Babu and Prof. I have not seen Atmosphere live in my city since 2005, I believe (before I moved to Las Vegas)! So I am clearly ready to meet them at the border with a welcome party; or at the very least, meet them at the venue with a smile, a camera, a concrete knowledge of all the lyrics, some enthusiasm and a pair of wedges (so my petite stature can see the stage!).

You can still get your tickets for this live event at the Phoenix Concert Hall, which I guarantee will be incredible, just make sure you do it before you arrive at the door, and look for the girl lip syncing along, with the bemused look on her face, in the heels.... I shouldn't be too hard to find.

*Take note: In the US Atmosphere brings "the high heels." Every girl wants Slug to notice them, write a song about them, spout off some of his prolific poetry; we all love a broken man who's got a gift of prose, it seems.

Music Monday: Cee-Lo Green- Cry Baby (video)

I'm back from a fabulous (yet too short) vacation to Portugal and Spain, and I'm greeted with the Teen Choice Awards, that aired last night; new Jay-Z and Kanye West; and new visuals from Cee-Lo Green's third solo album, The Lady Killer. Cee Lo *apparently the hyphen has been dropped now?* appears to be loving the 50s era, as per the inspiration of his latest music videos and even the melody of many tracks on this album. The latest visual is for "Cry Baby," which inspires images and flashbacks from the Johnny Depp cult-favourite movie of the same title, so perhaps that's another reason for the 50s style. It's a fun, light song and video, even though it's a bit of a Fuck You to woman's emotions and reactions to the way men can fuck us over and lie to their partners!

Anyone else notice that's Urkel as the heartbreaker? He looks good... never thought I'd say that!

Katy Perry as Smurfette

On a lighter note Katy Perry walked the red carpet Sunday afternoon for her acting debut at the world premiere of The Smurfs in 3D, in New York at the Zeigfielf Theatre. The singer channeled her inner Smurfette by wearing Smurf blue Louboutin pumps, dying her hair blonde, blue eye make-up, with Smurf nail decals, while donning a white frilled mini adorned with the character she does the vocals for.

I think her custom made The Blonds corset and teeny white mini are absolutely adorable, and would have been perfect for my Smurfette costume I wanted to wear last year for Halloween, but alas I could not find the right white dress, perhaps they'll start selling these in stores soon? I love that Katy has dived right into this opportunity to play dress-up, however I much prefer the pop singer as a brunette!

The Smurfs in 3D also stars the fabulously hilarious Neil Patrick Harris and Hank Azaria, along with Katy, Alan Cumming and George Lopez. It opens this Friday, July 29th.

Forever 27: RIP Amy Winehouse

This Saturday July 23rd Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London flat at 27 years of age, joining Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones (and Shannon Hoon) in the 27 Club. Death and loss is always a sad event, but the most tragic detail in this troubled singers passing, is that not a single person is surprised; and at the same time, no one could do anything to save her. She was a talented singer and songwriter, who's Grammy winning, critically acclaimed album, Back to Black spawned success across oceans. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the vice that possibly made her the artist millions of people loved to listen to and couldn't help but gawk at. She was doomed from the beginning, and we all sat back and watched as she self-destruct.

I just can't seem to stop posting Canadian topics, it's officially Canadian Month! Now that declaration is out of the way, I have another one: I LOVE The Weeknd! I'm talking, obsessed! I have House of Balloons on repeat, and have difficulty putting anything else on, and I'm counting the days until Thursday, the second installment of this album trilogy is released. If you follow Drake on Twitter, you would have read him quoting this 20 year old's Toronto natives lyrics to "Wicked Games," Bring your love baby I can bring my shame/Bring the drugs baby I can bring my pain/I got my heart right here, I got my scars right here/..So tell me you love me/Only for tonight, Some of my favourite lyrics from the track. The Weeknd has received a great amount of industry notoriety since the March 21, 2011 release of his 9 track EP. And I can hear why, the album is filled with tales of lust, pain, and over-indulgence set over twisted, melodic synthesizers and a arousal-inducing bass beat. It's sex, raw, intense, unforgiving and uncontrolled.

The Weeknd's live presence has been mostly kept underaps with "secret" appearances that buzz among the industry crowd, but finally the man is bringing his talent to the public, with a performance at The Mod Club this Sunday July 24th. Naturally the show sold out the beginning of the month, but there's still a chance to win tickets via 1 Love T.O.'s website.

MMVA Hosts

We're nearing the end of Canada Week, which seems like the perfect opportunity to close out the remaining attendees at Toronto's MMVAs. (Hey if they can repeat the show 1276 times until April 2012, then I can keep posting about it 3 weeks after the event happened!)

How have I never noticed this beautiful man before today (well before June 19th)?!?!?

Much Music VJ Jesse Giddings looked great on the Red Carpet, and it's not just his pretty face that I'm admiring; The white blazer, skinny jeans, gingham shirt, pocket square are all great. I especially love the peek-a-boo tattoo he has on his chest.

Another MuchMusic newcomer and standout was Phoebe Dykstra. I've noticed her on air a few times in the past and wondered where she came from and who she is; now I wonder the same only with less contempt and more intrigue. She looks great! Perhaps much has found it's next "alternative girl," after Sook-Yin Lee's departure.... Perhaps.

Another newcomer VJ Liz Trinnear, who won the MuchMusic VJ search 2 years ago (instead of my amazing friend Ashley), wasn't as fortunate as Phoebe. I feel like this is good in thought, perhaps in pieces but the execution isn't working for me. That skirt reminds me of something I would of worn in 1994.

The cast of MTV Canada carried around a cut-out of the "Heavy annoying girl;" and no, that is not me being tactless and mean, that is literally the "character" she plays. It's her shtick, and it's annoying. Besides the shoe/hem of Nicole's look, she looks good, I actually approve of the underwear-revealing slit, mostly because it's not boring, unlike Aliyah.

Before I begin, it should be noted that I have a large bias against the hosts of E-Talk Daily. It's not totally their fault, my mother and her incessant watching of their program is mostly to blame. She'd actually watch the same episode 3 times, and of course I find the hosts annoying. Now that that disclaimer is out of the way, I quite like Tanya Kim's one-shoulder belted tangerine mini, the shoes are horrific, however. Ben Mulroney looks both dapper and dorky, which I can't fully get on board with; which is unfortunate because he's the one who annoys me the least. Lainey Lui on the other hand, her dress is a big old mess, but the shoes are interesting and cute. Blondy on the end looks like she read "How to Look Edgy, For Dummies" and put on the stereotypical black corset, black mini and platform shoes in attempts to fit in with all the musicians.

Speaking of typical, former MuchMusic VJ Leah Miller arrived with her musician husband Dallas Green, in her uniform: so tight it makes breathing difficult, short, nude bandage dress. It's rare you'll see her in anything but, and it's barely worth mentioning...

Since we just finished celebrating Canada Day, and I took a whole birthday week, I've decided that my country can have the same; which is the perfect excuse to showcase the talents of Canadian Shaun Boothe. By now you've probably heard his Lykke Li sampled track "Let me Go," on the radio, now the talented Toronto emcee has dropped the visuals to his soon-to-be-Number-1 hit.

I was fortunate enough to catch the video this morning during my am run, and was impressed! The amount of pride I feel when local talent really showcases what both they and our country has to offer, so well done Shaun!

After you're finished bobbing along to "Let me Go," check out "Phone Sex" a new track that Shaun leaked today from his mixtape Waiting Room that drops this month! The track samples Jay-Z's "Song Cry" and has been dedicated to long distance relationships. Oh the memories!

Kendrick Lamar - Section 80

Three weeks ago on Thursday June 17th, Californian native Kendrick Lamar made his Canadian debut in Toronto, alongside AbSoul, Schoolboy Q, Lord Quest and friends to promote the release of his album, Section 80, and celebrated his 24th birthday. That night Kendrick played snippets of the entire album, and what we heard was sounding pretty promising. As it turns out, I'm not the only one who thought so; as of this week Section 80 has soared to the #1 spot on iTunes HipHop/Rap charts, and is #3 overall! What a great birthday present! Below is a video of Kendrick performing "Micheal Jordan" to the Toronto crowd, which I was a part of.

I had a chance to speak with Kendrick that night, and was not only impressed by his performance but also by his reading material, and chip choice (All Dressed, welcome to Canada gentlemen!), there was a copy of one of my favourite novels backstage. it was a great night and this is well deserved success! Congrats!

While I'm heading back to work after a Canada Day-long weekend, our Southern neighbours are enjoying similar festivities; complete with fireworks at dusk, lazy beach days- Lake Tahoe or Havasu would be a great choice, noshing on themed treats, celebrating their235 years of independence. It's funny that two countries with such distinct characteristics, yet somewhat similar lifestyles, share a weekend for a similar reason; even our national colours (yes with the "u") are almost identical, with the addition of blue for our American counter-parts. Even "funnier" still, even after all these similarities, it's still the biggest chore, bordering on impossible, to travel and move to the US! I'll share my AMAZING health care, if you share your enviable weather! I think that's a ridiculously fair deal. Enjoy your Fourth of July my American friends!

True Blood Sundays

Bill Compton is now King, and enticingly seductive Eric never gave up on the fairy he possibly loves (Sookie that is), thus bought her house so that he "owns" her-- Sounds like love to me. Unfortunately absent from the screen was Alcide, but here's hoping we'll see his tantalizing werewolf ~~body~~ face, whichever, tonight!

Also, Sam Merlotte has found a group of shifters to run with, while his younger brother Tommy shacks up (in the most baffling turn of events) with Hoyt's mother. Hoyt and Jessica are living a disgruntled domestic life; and Jason Stackhouse is now Bon Temps Sherriff and has been taking care of the kids up in Hotshot while Crystal is still awol. There was a lot of information packed in that half hour, but very little on "the pack" (werewolf reference), so I will again reiterate my expectations for tonight's episode, and hopefully things will also start to flow together and make sense.

Today Canada celebrates it's 144th birthday. The many options I had to spend this beautifully sunny (and humid) day in Ontario, included heading to the Beach (in my case it probably would have been Port Dover); going to an "awesome" cottage in Huntsville (a tried and true Canadian tradition); visiting the nation's capital and viewing the Royal Newlyweds in Ottawa; or staying home and cleaning (in preparation for my upcoming European vacation); I've decided to join my "roommate" and head to her trailer at one of my former favourite long-weekend spots, Fergus and Elora. Hopefully I can make it back to Toronto for some sangria and mojitos at Ultra's patio lounge and the Pride Parade on Sunday. However, you decide to celebrate our nation's birth, be safe and have fun and sing our anthem proud!

MMVA's: Lady Gaga & Dev

Lady Gaga's performance started the night, which then threw to The Far East Movement's "Like a G6" featuring Dev, who also performed her own track "Bass Down Low." Before I get into Gaga's appearance, which would normally deserve a post on its own, let's take a look at Dev.

On the Red Carpet Dev looked surprisingly cute, not at all what i would have expected from a woman who wore drool worthy studded platforms, that may prove difficult to walk in, since she was laying down the whole time in her music video. But I like it, I wouldn't mind something shockingly hot or edgy or even overtly trampy, but unexpectedly sweet is also welcome.

The outfit she chose to perform in, however was horribly unflattering. Now before I go any further, she looks pregnant and if she is, then I will take this all back, but if she's not, WTF?!?!?! is wrong with you? Why would you wear not only such a boring outfit to perform in, but also something that makes people think you're in your third trimester? Is that the new edgy thing to do? I am not on board! (Nor is there any baby either).

So let's talk Gaga, it may already be well known that I am not exactly a Gaga fan, but there are certainly some characteristics of hers that I can appreciate. This shitty song, "Edge of Glory" which she performed to open the night's festivities, is not one of them! I am sick of hearing how innovative this woman is, when all she's done is reproduce the EXACT sound from the 80's. There is no influence here, no fusion, this sounds EXACTLY like a song we would have danced horribly to in 1988-1990 (well, not "we" per se, since I was a little girl and a great dancer, but the rest of the mass public would have toe tapped and finger snapped their Footloose loving hearts away). The only positive, was her perfect eye-liner and her custom-made Versace jumpsuit. Who wouldn't love a Swarovski studded, shoulder-padded body suit with plunging neckline and Medusa details, even if she looks like she's wearing studded briefs?

While accepting her award for "Ur Fave International Artist," Gaga showed off some new found curves, thanks to a little weight gain. Who could resist such ample cleavage?! Normally I'd comment on how restricted her ladies must feel being belted in like that, but they look so good and full, that I really can't complain. I may have thought her body looked rocking during her controversial performance at MTV's 2009 Video Music Awards, and was appreciative of her svelte figure in the "Telephone" video, but these new curves are welcome!

Her next appearance on stage Gaga brightened things up, but still stuck with her late 80's/early 90s vibe, she accepted the award for in a Swarovski crystal encrusted, Vintage Versace and pants combo, topped with a colourful graphic printed trench, which reminded me of a Betty & Veronica comic.

Lady Gaga helped close out the show in one of the most absurd "statements" I've ever had the [dis]pleasure to witness. Not only did she wear a yellow & black leopard print blazer, reminiscent of lead singer of the Misfits "Pizzazz" (the connection to Jem is the only real positive here), she decided to glue aqua hair not only to her underarms (which was visible after she removed the jacket), but also to her lady parts, or Hot Pocket as Chelsea Handler affectionately calls it. I'm all for a 70's bush, which is one of the biggest reasons I prefer vintage Playboy issues (that and the tan lines, the fashion and the natural bodies and assets), but what she's trying to convey with this addition, I have no idea.
